Of course the big boys have the big bucks to get their names out but are they on top of relevant keywords?  Alot of the times not!  The little guy steams ahead here is it any wonder why, lack of the funding to pay for high cost advertising but never fear as more and more people start to understand how to search then the obscure sights will surge forward to the front of the pack.  Proper optimization is the key to obtaining high rankings with out shelling out major dollars to the big 5 search engines for top billing in there ad categories.
