Small SEO Job - Site up for 7 years!
About 3 weeks ago a local business approaced me in regards to their company website that had been up since 2000, this site could only be found via direct name search and the company was lost as to how to get there site ranked.
The site in question has a PR O via GOOGLE.
What is a direct name search? A direct name search is the
ability to be found via your website name for which a lot of people
think there site is doing great to be ranked for that. Well unless you
have some highly search keywords as your domain name this could not be
further from the truth and visistors to his site showed this as they
were basically non-existant.
Proper optimization is being able to
be found by what you do not who you are, let's face it who even knows
you outside your local area, in fact if you live a large city why would
you even think the whole town is using your services.
This
company that I am talking about had a limited budget as most do today
thanks to the state of our economy so I informed him that the most cost
effective way for me to work his site which by the way was on 5 pages
was to do it by the hour. As a business man of over 27 years I
figured I could get him noticed on local searches quite simply, then
possibly a few state wide searches on some of the main keywords.
Roughly
3 hours later I completed the task of adding meta-tags and re-working
some of the content within the pages. Here we are 3 weeks later and
his site was indexed by GOOGLE on 11/11/2007 and on the evening of
11/12/2007 his company is ranked for all of the keywords that he wanted
ranked for so he no longer has to pay for placement as he holds the 1st
page placement now, actually near the top of the first page. As most
experts no if properly done these rankings will improve over the next
few months to incorporate more words deeper in the text, proper
content incorporated with the right keywords equal results.
As a
business man of 27 years I can definately appreciate budget and I alway
attempt to work with in them so the people that I work for all recieve
the results that they want and need to maintain there business
structure and to stay solvent.

One thing to understand is that if your site has been up for a while and you have not recieved the rankings with in the search engines your site is probably in need of some optimization work, no guarantees can be made as to what type of success your site will have as optimization is only one part of the puzzle. Building incoming links is also extemely vital in being ranked higher on more global keywords, local keywords can be attained quite easy and can be very cost effective for any company.
The alternative is that you pay for ranking on the search engines which could easily run into the thousands of dollars depending on your advertising budget, so the choice is yours either pay an SEO or pay the search engines and sometimes with global terms it might be essential to pay for both or even have your site managed by professionals to achieve the desired goals.
