GUDesigns.com has had a nice year for the first year, we have done several jobs some much larger than others but one thing is in common all of our customers have been happy. Though this site physically has only been up since April of this year I have been doing work for over 8 years. Where has the time gone? You always hear about how time flies the older you get but until you actually are a little older you really never realize the truth in that fact.

There are many ways to advertise your site online that is cost effective to fit your budget though you need to understand the importance of how a site ranks and if they are properly using keywords with in there site to obtain high ranking or if the site is only ranked for it name and no other keywords.

A fatal mistake for most site owners is not ranking there site for what they do but ranking it for who they are, are you one of those people! Over the last couple of years I have noticed online advertising costs coming down for the independent site which is good for any business looking to advertise online.

Taking your business online!

This is never an easy thought as most brick and mortar businesses really do not have a good understanding on what the internet can do for them when properly harnessed. Many small business owners opt to build there site on there own which can be a big mistake especially if you are not willing to take the time to really understand what needs to be done to get noticed online.

Ask yourself a few simple questions:

Have you ever done any html, java, php or mysql database work?

It is essential that you have a basic understanding of how to build a website other wise you present a professional image in one business and are wasting your time in another.

Can you take the time to learn?

Alot of time is required to learn the basice of how to get your site ranked online, but if cash is tight than you have to do what you have to do.

It always amazes me though that the same person that says he has no money will spend money on newspaper advertising. You have the money to build a website the problem is you do not see the value in it, you are probably saying with over a billion sites online I will never get noticed anyways and that could not be further from the truth!

Advertising Dollars at Work

In the past couple months I have be spending a few bucks advertising my new business so I thought I would share with the results thus far.

First off a couple of days ago I installed Google Analytics into 4 of my sites and the results are great, this is a great feature that google offers giving you the ability to see when and where people come from who visit your site, enabling you know to see exactly what they are looking at. The idea is for better conversion to dollars, I wish I had installed it earlier but you know the old saying "Better late than never"!

Is Page Rank Important?

This is a question that many webmaster ask themselves everyday, to some it is a way of life they want to achieve the highest page rank possible and will only link to site that have that high ranking on Google. But I feel that in reality it is much better to concentrate on proper optimization to achieve higher placement in the search engines, I have been online working my site for seven years now, keeping my sites on top for many keywords is always a priority.

Personally I have outranked many sites with much higher PR simply by properly optimizing and understanding how to properly use keywords with in my pages to achieve higher ranking on the engines.

Free classifieds used properly can be a great way to advertise, the problem is most people put together an ad that does not sell! Why? People are use to advertising in the local paper and the perameter that they have set so that when they advertise online they use the same.

I will try to explain the proper way to advertise online only hitting on the key point so as not to bore you.

The title of your ad is the most important part of your ad:

Wrong way to put a title: Joesplace.com

Right Way to put a title: Auto Body Shop / Central Ohio / Columbus, Ohio

Most people never heard of Joesplace.com but they do search Auto body shop, proper usage of keywords will bring them to Joesplace.com.

That bunch of jiberish could not be further from the truth and quite possible the person who says it has never had an online business, we have all heard the old saying,

"You have to spend money to make money"

Well take it to heart if you have an online business because more than likely in order for people to even realize that you have an online business you will have to advertise it in order to have any visitors. Actually with websites your major expense will be advertising so you have to decide the best place to put your advertising dollars so that you can make your site a profitable investment.

As we understand online advertising we will begin to see the real value of online classifieds. Advertising online is not even close to the stereotypical newspaper classifieds, the new age of advertising is upon us and the way we think of online advertising is outdated in addition to the way we use online advertising as a marketing tool. We still think we are placing an ad in the local paper, in putting together ads online we use a short undescriptive format that we would use in the local paper. Advertising online is much different though, there still are sites that charge by the word, most of which are owned by newspapers but for the most part by using online classifieds you can pretty much say what you want in the ad.
